The Keg

The final game of the series was definitely not as exciting as the first two, and the fans weren't in it from the start. Even though Wednesday's finale of the series with the Yankees drew the most fans, 37,000+, the crowd was not as in to the game as it was the first two nights. Sure, the Yankees took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first because of an A-Rod bomb, but the Brewers got those 2 back right away in their half of the inning. Maybe the crowd was content with winning the series, and just wanted to go on Wednesday simply to be at the park. Either way, the energy was not in the Keg for the finale.

It was a beautiful night, a little too hot, but all in all, a great night for a ball game. Capuano was roughed up a bit and after Mussina found his groove, the Yankees rolled. Gary Sheffield continued to receive the best boos I have ever heard in my life, so that was entertaining it itself. We didn't stay for the whole game, because we didn't need to. After A-Rod hit his second home run in the 8th inning, Randy turned to me and said, "We can go", so we left. It wasn't until we were out of the Keg that I realized, hey we just saw A-Rod hit his 400th home run. Yep, we saw it and immediately left, but I can say I was there.

I finally got to see the Yankees win and thought Joe Torre getting thrown out was one of the best moments of the night because the home crowd finally had some energy. It was also nice to see the old regulars back in section 228. Those guys are fun to watch games with. Well, that's about it. Expect a huge rambling on Monday because I have a lot to talk about, like why Derek Jeter gets booed.

Season record at The Keg: 5-2
Weiner race winner: Italian (again)
Next game: Saturday June 25 vs. Minnesota

The Keg

Another short one today as I try and take time from my hot dogs to write.

Put simply, the crowd last night was better than the first night of the series, Ben Sheets was awesome, and the Yankees offense was annemic. The Brewer offense wasn't exactly stellar, but they again got the hits they needed to. Again, the Yankees couldn't capitalize with the bases loaded and have now gone hitless in (I believe) their last 24 at-bats will the bags full.

I don't know what is wrong with the Yankees, not only is the mystique gone, but the heart and fire the teams of the late '90's is gone too. Apparently a desire to win is something money can't buy.

For those of you who don't know the score, the Crew pulled it out 2-1 as Derek Jeter made the final out again to the delight of the 35,000+ in attendance. The Brewers were up 2-0 going into the 9th but a walk and a single got runners on first and second, but Jeter left one of them on third with a chance to tie the game.

It was an outstanding finish to a great game. Even though I would like to see the Yankees win, this has been a great series for the Brewers and the fans in this state.

Season record at The Keg: 4-1
Fights in the stands: 1
Weiner race winner: Bratwurst
Next game: Tonight vs. Yankees (Capuano/ Mussina)

The Keg

I can only do a quick little recap of the game last night because I am at work and my lunch break is almost over, but here it is.

Bottom line, the Brewers looked good, the Yankees looked horrible. Doug Davis has pitched in two straight games I have been to, and he has looked very good in each of them. Randy Johnson couldn't find the plate with his slider, and the highest I saw his fastball reach on the gun was 95. Granted, I wasn't watching his pitch speed after every pitch, but it should be higher than that.

The Yankees offense sputtered every time it had a chance to do some damage. The best example of that was in the 6th inning when 3 straight walks to lead off the inning yielded a whopping 0 runs. The Brewers got the clutch hitting they needed in the first when runners were in scoring position and again with Junior Spivey's game winning home run in the bottom of the fateful 6th.

The crowd was electric for the entire game. Sitting in section 206 (which was about 60-75% Yankees fans) we were even catching some of the hatred of the Bronx Bombers. The guys in section 202 were chanting "206...YOU SUCK!" for most of the game, quite an experience. One Yankees fan stood up then and yelled, "How many world championships do you have?" This is why many people hate the Yankees, their fans are jerks and think they are better than other fans. I am not like this, I wanted to ask the guy how many world championships he infact had. Just because he supports a team which has more championships than another he thinks he is more of a fan, or a better fan? I would tend to think that the people who cheer for teams without championships are better fans because they prove loyalty by sticking by a team and they probably enjoy the winning that much more, but that's just me.

Anyway, onto the stats:

Season record at The Keg: 3-1
Weiner race winner: Italian
Next game: Tonight vs. Yankees (Sheets/Pavano)
