Rambling Like School Girls
Greetings everyone, let's get right to it.
-Has anyone watched the NBA Finals?
-The U.S. Open returns to Pinehurst No. 2 this weekend in North Carolina. This of course was the sight of the 1999 Open in which Payne Stewart defeated Phil Mickelson by one stroke. It's a great course and a great event, it should be fun.
-The atmosphere in Chicago this past weekend was almost electric. We watched the game Saturday from one of the many bars in the city, Kincades and had a great time while there. Sox fans and Cubs fans alike were in the bar and both were cheering whole-heartedly, but not annoyingly for their team. Just a great atmosphere and the Cubs won 7-6, so it was an even better day for us.
-I asked in my last post why Derek Jeter gets booed. Is the only reason he does because so many people hate the Yankees and he is the face of the team? I don't get it. I know I am biased because I am a Yankees fan, but he is a solid player and has never done anything on or off the field to not be considered a good player. Someone give me a reason.
-Is Gaddis dead?
-Doesn't it just figure that this would be a year the Bucks win the lottery, when there is no clear cut number one?
-Another baseball question, can't there be some way that we can prevent situations in which Nomar Garciaparra is leading the NL All-Star voting? The guy hasn't played in months and may not play at all this year and he is leading the voting, situations like this must be stopped. It shouldn't simply be a popularity contest, fans need to get smarter.
-I am tired of hearing about how much St. Louis is running away with the NL Central. First of all, they are only 6 1/2 games ahead of the Cubs and it is June 13th. Second of all, the two teams have only played each other twice and play each other another 14 times before the season ends, including two series in September, of which the final four games are at the Friendly Confines, so let's everyone relax.
-I can't wait to watch Prince Fielder Jr. hitting in the DH position this week when the Brewers play at Toronto and Tampa Bay.
-Which do you all think is more fun, cornhole (bags) or bocce ball?
-What do you think the Brewers could get now for Geoff Jenkins, a new bat boy, more ushers, 4 or 5 barrels of beer?
-How long until Joe Torre gets fired? Will it be a Billy Martin situation?
-If anyone out there wants to tailgate before the June 25th Brewers/Twins game at The Keg, you should let me know. We are going down with a bunch of people to tailgate and hang out in the parking lot during the game, eat good food, play cornhole, and maybe even have a couple drinks.
-David Stern and the NBA players union will be the dumbest combined group of people if they do not come to a collective bargaining agreement before June 29th. Have they not learned anything from Hockey? Fans aren't going to put up with this anymore, especially when your championship series isn't exactly drawing casual fans in and (I haven't checked the ratings) is one of the least watched Finals' ever. Come up with something, anything, just don't do the lockout, I beg you.
-Finally, if you want to watch athletes giving their all and doing it for nothing but the team, watch the NCAA College World Series. There are great games every night.
-Until next time...

Hey, one problem with watching the College World Series as the best sporting event to watch. Ever see a State Championship Track and Field Event? Recently I had to opportunity to watch Wisconsin's Track and Field Championships and I really didn't realize what was happening until it was all over. Fans were cheering for good races and record-breaking performances, even if that meant cheering for the opponent. Fans weren't arguing calls made by officials, there was slander in the stands to another team or fan. Athletes cheered for other athletes and when it was their turn to perform, they laid it all on the line and finished barely able to stand from shortness of breath or laying on the ground. And if an opponent beat an athlete, that person would give a congratulatory hug.
Matt James wrote a great article in the La Crosse Tribune on June 5 to bring this to my attention. I have to say, I can't wait until next year.
