Softball

There are many sports around which were created just so the participants could drink beer while playing them. Over the course of the next few days or weeks (however long it takes) I will explore these different sports, and perhaps even tell you about my personal experiences playing them.

Softball seems to have been created so that guys who never could quite make it in college baseball. Some people take it waaaay to seriously and others (like me) just play it for the social aspect. I will do just about anything if it involves hanging out with a few buddies for a couple of hours, there's nothing better. Added to that is that fact when weekend tournaments come around, you get to spend your whole day playing a GAME (which the fanatics don't remember) with your friends and throw back a few brewskies while doing it, what a country!

This is also a great game because it almost seems like the fatter you get, the better you get at softball. When you're really really round, you become really good at hitting the ball into open spots on the field because you don't want to have to run out any plays. This is the part of my game I am working on right now.

Throw into the atmosphere at a softball diamond the crazed locals who apparently don't work, so all they do is sit around and watch softball at the local fields and drink heavily. Most of these people are quite annoying, but it wouldn't be softball without them.

My team won tonight in 8 innings, 12-11. This brings our season record to 1-2, although we have lost by a total of 4 runs. Don't worry, I intend to keep you up to date on how the season is going each week. Oh yeah, and my stats, so far I am hitting .142 with a .250 OBP, 1 walk, 0 strikeouts, and one horrible call at first base to lead off the top of the eigth in our last game. I also have probably 3 errors in two games. Oh well, I still love to play, and that's not helping anything.
