Golfing, or something like it.
I recently purchased a discounted membership to a course about 12 minutes from where I work and about 15 minutes from where I now reside, (Silver Spring Country Club) so I have broken out the wrenches a few times in the past 3 days. Let me tell you, there's a reason why I will never make it to the PGA Tour.
The worst part of my game all season has been my putting. After the 4th hole during Saturday's round, I regained the putting form I had during high school when my handicap was 7 and I was shooting in the 30's on a pretty regular basis. Obviously, I thought I was going to do pretty well that day. I turned around a few bad opening holes en route to a front nine 46 and then shot 42 on the back nine. Considering the difficulty of the course and the fact I don't carry a driver or 3 wood anymore, I was pretty happy. I even made the statement afterwards that I was just as confident now as I was back in high school. I also said, "My game is back."
Then we played the harder of the two courses at Silver Spring Country Club today. I shot the worst round I have shot in 3 years on the front nine, a 60. Yup, that's right, a 24 over par 60! The last time I shot a 60 was on the front nine at Mequon County Club. I followed that up with the last 39 I have shot. An incredible turn around and I have no idea how it happened. Today, I didn't go lower than 40, but shot a 42 on the back nine, to finish with 102 for the day.
This is why I love golf, you could go out and shoot 44 one round and 63 the next, just an incredible game with many ups and downs. Plus, when you go with good friends, it doesn't really matter what you shoot.
Also about golf, since Annika Sorenstam definitely didn't win the US Women's Open, we have proved once again that I know absolutley nothing about anything.
Oh yeah, and welcome back Gaddis
-Until next time...
