Overdue Morning Report

Yeah, yeah, so I haven’t done it in a while, but here it is:

Brewers 8 vs. Phillies 7

So the Crew won their 3rd straight game in their last at bat, and it could’ve been 4 had Derrick Turnbow not allowed a home run to Paul Lo Duca in the top of the ninth inning on Saturday. But anyway, the Brewers are playing some really good ball at home, going 15-7 so far and have the second best home record in the bigs (White Sox 14-5).

I really enjoyed being at the game on Saturday night, even though they lost, but that is for a different time. Since I was making dinner for Michelle last night and hanging out with her, since she is leaving for grad school tomorrow, I didn’t see much of the game. I do know that the team was up 3 in the ninth and needed to win it in the bottom of the ninth. I also know that Geoff Jenkins had a home run and then drove in the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth, and this is only 5 days after I was yelling, “trade him” after every at bat. I am not moving from my position, however.

Winning now is very important for the Brewers since Ben Sheets, Toma Ohka, and JJ Hardy are on the DL. Some people like the fact Hardy went down because Bill “Big Time” Hall is going to get a chance to play everyday. Beating the hottest team in the league 2 nights in a row (Philadelphia had won 13 of 14 coming in) is a real confidence booster after an unsuccessful West Coast swing.

It’s good to see the Brewers winning when the teams ahead of them (except for first place St. Louis) are losing. Hopefully they can complete the sweep today.

I LOVE SEAN MARSHALL! My heterosexual man crush has now officially gone from Reggie Bush to Sean Marshall. 2 out of the last 3 games this south paw has pitched have seen him take a no hitter into the sixth inning. That is exactly what the Cubs need out of all of their starting pitchers, but we’ll take it from at least one. With Maddux seemingly having fixed whatever was ailing him and Zambrano pitching like the Big Z, there is a certain buzz being felt even here in Milwaukee as Kerry Wood makes his long anticipated return to the starting rotation today. What am I hoping for from Kerry? I’m hoping he is still in the game when I get out of my one o’clock meeting, that’s what I’m hoping, anything above that is gravy. If he goes 5 innings pain free, I will be happy!

About the game last night (this game I did watch on my computer while Michelle was over, I thought I could get away with one game, but definitely not two), Marshall was excellent, and Todd Walker continues to show Cubs brass that it was wise not to trade him in the off season.

A solid effort all around, and D Lee is dare I say it, only about 4-5 weeks away! The injury happened April 19th, that was 4 weeks ago, they said 8-10 weeks, he only has 2 more weeks with the cast and then rehab. If things go well, he could be back by the start of the second leg of inter league play.

A shutout for the second straight game, and Marshall and three relievers combined for a one-hitter. They go for the sweep this afternoon with Wood on the mound and then head cross-town for a battle with the defending World Champs. Let’s see if they can get on a bit of a role before Cincy comes to town to close the month.
