Thanks to Vin for some insight on the game Tuesday evening, because as I said, I didn’t see much of it. As for last night’s game, a 3 run 4th inning for the Padres and that’s about it. No real excitement in this game, except for Chan Ho Park dominating. The Crew is back at .500 and this season is starting to smell like hovering right around that number all season.

I will say that I am very impressed with how well Carlos Lee is swinging the bat this season. It’s not like he wasn’t a power hitter, but he is absolutely raking the ball right now. If Geoff Jenkins could get anything going at the dish, the 3-5 in this lineup would be one of the toughest in the league.

If the team does want to get above and stay above .500, Mike Maddux is going to have to work some more magic, as he did last season, with Sheets going on the DL.

Cubs 8 @ Giants 1

Z, where have you been all season? That is what we’ve been waiting for all season. The called third strike he threw to Bonds in the 4th was absolutely filthy. Juan Pierre was actually getting on base on scoring, from the 2-hole last night. The Cubs still can’t get a leadoff hitter to produce, as Ronny Cedeno ended 2 innings, but at least Pierre was getting on and scoring.

Jacque Jones is one of those players who you hate one day and love the next, I am thoroughly convinced of this now after his performance at the dish last night, and I am fine with it. A couple of hits, 2 run home run, but he still can’t hit the cutoff man, which is frustrating. Gaddis may have some words for him tomorrow.

Ramirez actually took a pitch where it was pitched and hit it down the line to the opposite field, got a double, advanced Todd Walker to third, and knocked in Pierre. See what happens when you DON’T try and pull everything out of the stadium!

I don’t want to get too excited, but they just ended an 8 game losing streak, so I may be going a little overboard, but it looked like breaks were actually going to Cubs’ way. In the same inning, a pitch went off of the pitchers leg (which usually would have gone straight to the first baseman) and allowed Pierre to get on base, AND a ground ball went up the middle for what looked like an easy inning-ending double play, but it was booted by the second baseman, and everyone was safe! Later in the game, an error by the first baseman allowed Jacque Jones to reach and a run to score, it was incredible to watch it happen in the favor of the team for which you are cheering!
