Daily Brew 7/21

Am I the only one noticing that Ned Yost continues to catch a free pass in Milwaukee? This man is continually doing an average-to-bad managing job, and no one seems to care because he played for the 1982 Brewers. The way he has mis-handled the Jorge de la Rosa situation all season long, the way he would continually run his team out of scoring opportunities by sending guys like Brady Clark (it has become painfully evident he cannot steal) while big hitters are at the plate, the way he sits his best left-handed hitters when lefties pitch, and the way he is often flat out out managed by the opposing manager most every night all drive me insane.

Lets start with the de la Rosa situation. He started out unbelieveable, remember that series against the Cubs? He was great. But then Yost never used him because of an ineffective streak. Well Ned, guys will tend to get rusty when they're not seeing any action for three weeks to a month at a time. Recently because of a fatigued bullpen, and don't fool yourself, thats the only reason, he finally inserts him for action again and what d'you know, the kid looked impressive. Hmmm.

Stop trying to steal with Brady Clark, he will never be a base stealer. Only one guy should be green-lighted on this team. Ricky Weeks. Oh yeah and stop stealing when Overbay, Clark and Jenkins are at the plate.

Last night while the tying run was on second base with two outs in the eight inning, Chris Magruder stepped to the plate. Now, conventional wisdom would tell you to insert Geoff Jenkins for Magruder and allow him to hit, but apperantly Yost is not privy to that wisdom. Magruder went down swinging and the Brewers ultimately lost. Better yet, Jenkins pinch hit in the ninth and got a single through the box with no one on base. Okay Ned, lets see Jenkins (who again is your hottest hitter and one of the hotter hitters in the league) versus Ray King or Magruder versus Julian Tavarez. Is this even a question? It's just like ending a close game with a time out, you can't pocket that TO and use it tomorrow, what were you waiting for?

Kenny Rogers will meet with Bud Selig in Milwaukee for his appeal on friday. You know, all the people who told us three weeks ago that "that is not kenny Rogers, I know Kenny and he is a real nice, peaceful guy." Yeah, did you see him at it again when he turned himself in? Sure that wasn't him, I believe you. Lets face it, Kenny Rogers is a jerk and those were just cases of players sticking up for another player.

Everyday my hatred for Drew Rosenhaus grows more and more, even AFTER he saved a boys life. "I always wanted to be a hero." A real hero wouldn't bring the attention on himself. I'm glad he did what he did and that the young man is alright, but don't brag about it.

Note to Javon Walker, he works for you, you don't work for him. Is he looking out for your best interest? Maybe a little, but bottom line is Drew won't get paid if you don't get your big payday. Anquan Boldin hired Rosenhaus but said despite a contract dipute he WON'T hold out.

Remember a few months back when this guy (me) picked the A's to win the AL West? Who looks like the moron now? I guess maybe Billy Bean really does know what he's doing.

Larry Brown is that girl you have an affair with and finally decide "okay I'm going to leave my wife for her" only to find out that she is married and was doing the same thing to you. While he is a snake, the Pistons can't be all that mad considering they did the same thing to the Sixers to get him.

Michael Irvin said on the Dan Patrick Show yesterday that he wouldn't have a problem with what Brett Favre said to Walker if he would have repeated the same thing to management and told them to hurry up and get the deal done. Irvin also said teams only pony up for quarterbacks and sounded quite bitter about it. What is Favre supposed to say Michael? "Hey Ted Thompson, I think, even though this guy is under contract mind you, that you should just go ahead and pay him the money he wants. I mean he did have a good year last year, granted he wasn't all that good his first two years in the league, but he was good last year while catching passes from me. You know the same guy who almost turned Bill Schroeder into a Pro-Bowler and got Corey Bradford a big contract from the Texans. Why don't we just cave in and pay him" Yeah I think it would sound something like that. Lets get is straight here, yes players can be cut if they under perform, but so can I, my mom, my dad, Gaddis, Nate, your sister, your cousin, Fabos, and everyone in America. That argument is ludacris and a slap in the face to us fans. Yes you can be cut, but you also keep your siging bonus, and more often than not they get overpaid and are eventually cut because of it. Honor your contract, shut up, and stop insulting us. Can Javon Walker hold out on Rosenhaus and ask to renegotiate his deal with him if the Packers end up defeating him in this stand off, I wonder...

This is so right on, like Virginia Madsen's character in Sideways says when describing wine, I just liked this column because, "It's so f*^%ing good". This was one of the best columns we've had on this site, and I write most of them, so you know how strongly I feel about everything written.

I agree 100% with every single statement made, excellent work Garcia, I can't wait for more Daily Brew.
