Ramble, Ramble, Ramble

It’s been a while so it’s time for the Ramblings.

- If your NFL team starts off the season at 2-4 or worse, and are already 4 games behind first place, there should really be a law in place that states, “We will remain competitive, but will not win another game to secure a top pick in the draft next year”. Especially when you are going to need a running back and Adrian Peterson is going to be available. How about Miller Lite makes that a manlaw?

- This may be the most boring World Series ever, especially since game 4 was rained out. I seriously think that MLB ordered Rogers to put something on his hand so there would be some kind of interest in the Series and something to write about. Other than that it has been about how Albert Pujols has turned into the next “Barry Bonds”.

- I recently witnessed a West Bend West high school football playoff game. This may not seem like a big deal to anyone, but this was the first time in school history West would be hosting a playoff game and only the second time they were in the playoffs, the first time being in 1997. After going 0-9 last season, West went 8-1 in the regular season, losing only to Wisconsin Lutheran in double overtime after their kicker had missed his only kicks of the entire season (2 extra points and a field goal on a gusty night) which would have won them the game in regulation, and beating the number 1 ranked team in the state, Hartford, on their home field, on Hartford’s homecoming weekend, sharing a conference title for the first time since 1977. I bring this up because as I watch the game on Tuesday, I couldn’t help but think it was 1998 and I was on the football team getting the brains beat out of us. West lost 36-14 to 5-4 Waukesha North to end the season. It was pretty pathetic, but congrats to West on a tremendous regular season!

- Why do we have to put up with that John Mellencamp commercial, with that, “this is our country” song playing during it? Actually, we don’t have to put up with it, whenever it is on, I either hit mute or turn the channel. Much like that new Office Depot commercial. You know, “head for the depot, OFFICE DEPOT, OFFICE Depot”. Yeah, they’re both reaching “spasmatic torticalis” heights.

- What does this sound like: Mandatory Dress Code, No swearing, No gesturing towards authority, No complaining about the equipment, Use our equipment or don’t use anything, and LEAVE YOUR GUNS AT HOME! So, does that sound like a prison, school, daycare, rec league? Nope, it’s the NBA, it’s FANNNTASTIC!

- I purchased Tiger Woods 2007 the weekend it came out (and procuring said rations was tougher than you may think) and began playing it right away. I was very excited to hear about the new courses which were added and the gallery that would be following you, growing larger, and cheering you on. Also, the controls were tweaked a bit to make the game a little more difficult. All-in-all I am satisfied with the game, but I have yet to see a gallery. I thought maybe I would need to play at a tougher level, so I started playing on the hardest level there was, where you have absolutely no AI helping you out, but nope, nothing. Then I thought maybe I would have to become a superstar to get a gallery to follow me during tournaments. Nope, won 2 majors and still nothing. I don’t get it. Look for a full review to come, but like I said, it’s entertaining.

- Speaking of golf; I love watching golf on television. I don’t just watch the majors, but watch about 15 events per year. However, I lose a lot of interest after the PGA Championship (especially when we are getting out butts handed to us in the Ryder Cup). The only events I watch after the PGA Championship are the Ryder Cup and the Tour Championship. I just don’t care about any other events after the last major. Here’s my solution; cut the season down. Have the PGA Championship in August, the Ryder Cup can stay the same, every two years in September, but move it up to the weekend after Labor Day and then have the Tour Championship the last weekend of September and end the season. Then, forget the January events, start with the Sony Championship in late February, and then have a maximum of 2 or 3 events per month. That would keep interest up, make tournaments more important and more top players would be in them.

- If I’m trying to hire someone into a position where they will be doing a lot of administrative work and faxing paperwork to our hiring managers and that person can’t even fax her application in correctly (it was all blank pages, must have been faxed upside down) should I even hire that person?

- It’s scary to think that we are only a little more than 2 months away from FOX ruining the Bowl Championship Series games with their broadcasts. I think I’ll have a moment of silence for Keith Jackson and the rest of the ABC crew.

- Prediction time: Michigan will beat Ohio State November 18th, Michigan over Florida in the title game, my Final Four (depending on seeding) is Kansas, Florida, North Carolina, and Wisconsin, I’ll take the Bears over the Broncos in the Super Bowl, and give me Wisconsin losing to whomever they play in the Bowl game.

That’s about all I have so….

- Until next time…

First of all, the NBA really is fantastic (I'm picking up on the sarcasm).

Secondly, let me know when I can make it up to you, for being a complete jag and skipping out on camping, by purchasing you large quantities of alcohol.

well, hucklebuck, I have nothing going on this weekend as of yet. And hey, if by skipping camping, you were able to get some, then don't worry about it

If by "get some" you mean a few hours of her time, then yes, I got some (conversation). She's an insanely busy girl who I hadn't seen in over two years. But within the last couple of months I've been able to see her (my-ex) sparingly.

I pretty much jump at any chance I get to see this girl since she will be graduating from grad school in 08' and will probably move to Chicago afterwards to marry a nice Catholic man...

Anywho, before this becomes a Dear Abby entry, it's nice to see you hopping back on the blogging saddle again, if for only one day.
